Cavity wall insulation consists of installing a thermal insulation layer within the space between the inner and outer leaves of a double-wall construction.
The insulation layer helps reduce heat transfer through the building envelope while allowing the inner wall to remain on the conditioned side of the insulation. Depending on the construction, the outer leaf may provide the external architectural finish and contribute to protecting the inner layers from direct exposure to weather.
For this application, the insulation material should provide reliable thermal performance and low water absorption, as access to the insulation can become difficult once the wall construction has been completed.
X-FOAM® LMF is an extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation board particularly suited to cavity wall applications. Its large 600 × 2800 mm format allows extensive wall areas to be covered with fewer horizontal joints, while the four-sided tongue-and-groove edges help maintain continuity between adjacent boards.
Depending on thickness, X-FOAM® LMF provides a compressive strength from ≥ 200 to ≥ 300 kPa, combining the thermal performance and low water absorption of XPS with a format specifically suited to large vertical surfaces.
