Floor insulation consists of installing a continuous thermal insulation layer within the floor build-up, typically above the structural slab and beneath the screed or other load-distribution layers and final floor finish.
Thermal insulation reduces heat transfer through the floor and helps maintain more comfortable internal surface temperatures, particularly where the floor separates a heated space from the ground, an unheated room or another environment with different temperature conditions.
Floor insulation is subjected to permanent loads from the overlying construction and variable loads associated with the use of the building. The selected material must therefore combine thermal performance with mechanical properties suitable for the intended floor construction.
X-FOAM® HBD is an extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation board suitable for floor applications. It combines low water absorption with a compressive strength of ≥ 300 kPa, providing thermal insulation and mechanical performance within correctly designed floor build-ups.
The boards are available in 600 × 1250 mm format, with thicknesses from 30 to 100 mm.
